People will react to cow slaughter, says Vinay Katiyar

ALLAHABAD: Senior BJP leader

Vinay Katiyar

on Tuesday said that Muslims should respect the sentiments of Hindus and avoid cow smuggling and slaughter, and added that if

cow slaughter

takes place, then people will react. He also said a mass movement bigger that the earlier one is on the anvil to build

Ram temple

at Ayodhya.

"Gau mata (cow) is the epitome of faith and devotion for Hindus and they will not tolerate its killing at any cost. There have been some mob lynching incidents in reaction to cow slaughter in the country as people have become quite aware about the issue," Katiyar said on Alwar mob lynching incident.

"Desh may pashu ko lekar manusya ki hatya ho jana katai uchit nahin hai. Lekin yeh bhi uchit nahin hai ki gai (cow) ki hatya ho aur log us par pratikriya na de (killing of a person for an animal could not be justified, but that people will not react to cow slaughter is also not possible)," said Katiyar, who was in the city to attend a function.

"People should respect feelings of each other... Muslims should understand that cow slaughter will not be tolerated in this country any more. In fact, Muslims should come forward for the protection of cows and nurture them," he said.

He, however, clarified that that there should be no mob lynching in the country and people should not take law in their hands.

The BJP leader also termed Alwar mob lynching incident as "unfortunate" and demanded a probe into the role of the police. "The life of the person could be saved if police had taken him to hospital early," he said.

Talking about the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya, Katiyar said "a mass movement for the construction of Ram temple will be launched shortly and preparations are being made." He claimed this mass movement will be bigger than the previous Ram Mandir movement (in 1992) and clear the way for construction of Ram temple.
