Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Friday directed the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) authorities to provide medical treatment at SGPGI in Lucknow to seven patients of Sir Sunder Lal Hospital at BHU who had become blind allegedly due to administering of a banned injection at the hospital.
Hearing a PIL filed by law students Deeksha Dwivedi, Vedika Nath and Sameksha, a division bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Varma further directed that all expenses incurred during the treatment would be borne by the BHU authorities.
While fixing April 22 as the next date of hearing, the court also directed the BHU authorities to file their reply (counter affidavit) within two weeks.
The court further said that if any report in the matter has been prepared by the chief medical superintendent, Varanasi, the same shall be placed before the court on the next date of hearing.
The PIL alleged that seven eye patients had lost their eyesight during treatment at SSL hospital at BHU, allegedly when they were injected an injection which was banned.
It has alleged that the patients had lost their eye sight because of the alleged negligence of the doctors of BHU.
This incident had taken place on January 31 at BHU's SSL Hospital.
