Mural painting at Minto Park in Allahabad

Allahabad: Visitors of all age coming to Allahabad in the forthcoming Kumbh-2019 and visiting the famous

Minto park

, located few meters from Sangam area, are all set to witness the entire jungle and variety of animals found in it within the four-walls of this iconic park of the city. The jungle and its animals are there on the walls in form of mural paintings.

This famous park is located besides the river Yamuna and so named after

Earl of Minto

who, in 1910, laid a stone memorial with a four-lion symbol on the park. The park is a historical site for in 1858 Earl Canning read out the declaration of Queen

Victoria

's Proclamation which resulted in the complete transfer of control over India from The East India Company to the government of Britain.

The walls of this park have been painted with the mural painting of wild life by a team of former and present students of the department of Fine Arts of

Allahabad University

. The team of these artists were roped in by the authorities of the forest department of the district which has revamped the entire park. The main office of forest department (Allahabad zone) is located within one corner of this park.

Singh, the team has made Eight large sized mural paintings of the wild animals. Each of these paintings is 20 feet long and Eight feet in height.

“The work was challenging for us owing to a long neglect of the texture of the walls, but the authorities of the forest department, especially Divya, the DFO, took personal interest and the result, one can see for themselves”, said Uddham.

Made of carefully selected acrylic paints, which makes this painting safe from all weather conditions. There is everything, from flamingo to peacock, dear, blackbuck, reindeers etc. The mural painting of the scene from the film ‘the jungle book’ is worth watching and have already become the favourite spot for kids who pose for taking selfie at this point.

“The work is done under the ‘namami gange project’ and the murals on the walls are quite impressive and will attract several visitors, those who come to the park daily and those who would come in Kumbh-2019”, said the DFO, Divya.
