ALLAHABAD: Corporate leaders, eminent scholars and successful managers, will participate in the Global alumni meet of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT). The meet will be held on November 14-15 and followed by the year long golden jubilee celebrations of the institute starting from December 2 this year.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the MNNIT Alumni Association's executive committee held at the institute campus recently.
MNNIT director Prof AB Samaddar said that institute is planning to host a grand ceremony on the completion of its 50th successful year. "Besides, we are also planning to organise a series of events as part of the golden jubilee celebrations. On the occasion, a special emblem, for which entries have already been invited, will be released,'' he said.
MNNIT, formerly known as Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNERC), was established in 1961. General secretary of alumni association, and a senior faculty member RP Tiwari said that after long deliberations over various names it has been decided to invite chairman of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) BC Tripathi, an MNNIT alumnus, as chief guest.
Besides, another alumnus, Deep Joshi, winner of Ramon Magsaysay Award, will also be felicitated during the global meet, the biggest ever to be hosted by the Institute. The silver jubilee batch of 1984 of MNNIt will also be felicitated during the meet.
"We have asked our alumni association's four regional chapters at Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata besides the unit at Lucknow to begin inviting more and more scattered alumni into association's fold. Appeal will also be made to our foreign chapters located at Canada and US,'' said general secretary of alumni association. "The aim is to raise funds needed for a new golden jubilee campus, setting up a golden jubilee chair for alumni officer besides having a golden jubilee fund for travel grant for the students to enable them to present their research papers abroad," Prof Tiwari said.
The association plans to raise enough funds to help institute start diverse activities like holding national/international conferences, publishing a golden jubilee monogram, constructing mega hostels, installing a golden jubilee gate and a clock tower on the campus, he added.
