Drawing architectural inspirations from Kashi, Mathura and Ayodhya, the eight new permanent ghats along Ganga and Yamuna rivers will facilitate pilgrims to have safe ‘snan’ during the Maha Kumbh. Constructed at the cost of Rs 94 crore over a period of 10-12 months with the efforts of around 15,000 workers, the ghats can accommodate 1.2 lakh people at a time. Three ghats have been constructed on Ganga and five on Yamuna.

To cater to the rush of devotees arriving to take a holy dip in Sangam during the 45-day Maha Kumbh, the mela administration has set up a total of 41 ghats, including eight permanent ones. Making the pilgrimage of devotees easier, the mela police on Sunday launched the facility of parking zones along with the map guide towards nearest ghats.

According to the plan, devotees coming from Jaunpur route will be able to take holy dip at ghats being constructed in sector 5, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
Similarly, devotees from Varanasi can have ‘snan’ at ghats in Old GT and Chatnag areas.

In view of the first ‘snan’ of Maha Kumbh on Paush Purnima (Jan 13) and Makar Sankranti snan, the first Amrit snan (Jan 14), Mela police on Sunday declared the entire mela area a no vehicle zone and launched diversion & parking plan for vehicles flocking to Sangam city from seven different directions. Mela police have restricted the entry of vehicles except administrative/police/ medical into the mela area from Saturday night till Jan 15 and have issued a detailed guideline for devotees.
