ALLAHABAD: With the date of the Magh Mela inching closer, the public works department, Jal Nigam, power department, etc, have pulled up their socks to complete all pending projects. While five pontoon bridges are complete, construction of roads and laying of checkered plates are being taken up on priority.
However, after noticing the marshy pieces of land inside the Magh Mela campus, the authorities have decided to install barricading and boards before January 10.

PWD officials on Friday claimed that construction of roads was about to be complete and sacks of sands were being placed on the marshy land. Jal Nigam has been directed to ensure proper sprinkling of water to control dust from blowing.
Officials said the tightening of the nut and bolts of the checkered plates would be completed by January 5. A total of 36 tankers have been deployed for sprinkling water and supplying potable water. Transformers would be placed at four sub-stations.
Erecting of tents at different sectors is underway and police authorities have reviewed security arrangements. Police forces from neighbouring districts have started arriving and assignment of duties has begun.
District police chief Umesh Kumar Yadav said, "Elaborate security arrangements are in place for the mela and adequate police force would be deployed".
