Prayagraj: Overcast skies accompanied by intermittent light showers brought a sharp dip in temperatures across the city on Thursday, offering much‑needed relief from the prevailing heatwave‑like conditions. The maximum temperature settled at 31.6 degrees Celsius, nearly nine degrees below normal, officials said.
According to meteorological data, around 2 mm of rainfall was recorded during the day. However, the showers were unevenly distributed, with rural areas receiving relatively better rainfall than the city’s urban pockets. Persistent cloud cover and light rain helped keep daytime temperatures in check, though high humidity levels caused mild discomfort at times.
Officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the relief is likely to be short‑lived, as temperatures are expected to rise over the next two days due to clearer skies and increased solar radiation.
The IMD has, however, forecast another change in weather from May 3, when light to moderate rainfall is expected in Prayagraj and adjoining areas. This spell may continue for a couple of days and could once again bring down temperatures, providing intermittent respite from the heat.
