Prayagraj: A 50-year-old man, who was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly beating his 30-year-old daughter to death at Gaura Attarsand village in Pratapgarh, told police he was drunk and attacked her in a rage when she refused to cook.
According to reports, Ramlal had brought his daughter Sonam from her in-laws’ house on Tuesday afternoon. He later went to market in Kandhai, sold wheat, and used the money to buy two pouches of country liquor. He drank on the way back. When he asked his daughter if she had cooked a meal, she refused.
In a fit of rage, he grabbed a stick and hit her repeatedly. His daughter lay about 15 steps away through the night while he slept, intoxicated. Police said the accused did not realize his daughter had died. Around 8:30 am the next morning, he went to check on her and found her dead. With help from passersby, he moved her body onto a cot inside the house. Unsure what to do, he eventually asked a passerby to call his daughter’s in-laws from their phone.
A senior police officer said the deceased was married to Ajay Kumar of Tala village under Kandhai police station limits, and the couple had two children.
