Kaushambi records 52.7% poll turnout

PRAYAGRAJ: Battling extreme heat wave conditions, around 52.7% electorate spread in five assembly seats of Kaushambi and Pratapgrah districts, cast their franchise for Kaushambi Lok Sabha seat on Monday by 6 pm.

With this, the fate of all 10 candidates-- sitting MP and BJP candidate Vinod Sonkar, Pushpendra Saroj of Samajwadi Party and Shubh Narayan of Bahujan Samaj Party-- was locked in EVMs.

SP Kaushambi Brijesh Kumar Srivastava told TOI that polling was held peacefully, and no untoward incident was reported.

The Kaushambi parliamentary seat consists of five assembly seats: Chail, Manjhanpur and Sirathu of Kaushambi and Babaganj and Kunda of Pratapgrah district. By 5pm, Manjhanpur recorded 55.58 %, Sirathu (51.68%), Chail (51.44%), Babaganj (46.89%) and Kunda (46.29%).

There was a total of 19,09,620 voters, including 10,12,892 men, and 8,96,582 women in Kaushambi Lok Sabha seat.

The voters started reaching booths since early morning hours to beat the heat.
