ALLAHABAD: Special court (MP and MLA) on Thursday granted bail to Congress leader and former MP
Jitin Prasada in a case of alleged violation of code of conduct during the 2014
Lok Sabha
elections, which was registered at Lakhimpur Khiri district.
On Thursday, Prasada surrendered before the court in the said case and was taken into judicial custody. However, when his bail application was moved, special judge Pawan Kumar Tiwari, who is presiding over the special court (MP and MLA), granted him bail.
It is alleged that during the 2014 elections, Prasada took out a procession which had more motorcycles and cars than the permissible limit set by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Hence, a case of violation of model code of conduct was registered against him.
When the special court (MP and MLA) was set up at Allahabad as per direction of the Supreme Court to exclusively try criminal cases registered against the members of Parliament and members of state legislatures, the matter was shifted here.
