A school notebook helped Gorakhpur
police trace the owner of a misplaced bag containing jewelry worth Rs
2.5 lakh
.Sunil Pathak and his family hired a tempo on Saturday to go to the railway station where they had to catch a train to Basti. In a hurry, they left behind a bag containing jewelry worth Rs 2.5 lakh in the tempo.
The tempo driver Rakesh Yadav allegedly kept mum about the bag and went away.
Another passenger on the auto however noticed the bag and grew suspicious.
Fearing that it may contain a bomb, he informed the police. Constables Sugreev Kumar and Amla Yadav from Cant police station subsequently flagged down the tempo driver at Muhaddipur cross road and seized the bag.
A notebook belonging to Sunil's son was found in the bag along with the jewelry. The notebook contained the name of the child and the school's details on it.
Police later got Sunil's mobile phone number from the school and handed over the bag to him. Pathak was amazed at his luck and thanked the police for their commendable job. A case under section 406 of IPC has been registered against the tempo driver.
