History-sheeter shot by rivals, accused held

Prayagraj: A 25-year-old history-sheeter was shot dead by two armed assailants near Malviya Nagar on Thursday morning.

While one of the accused, identified as Bhola, was arrested near the spot, police nabbed another killer, Vimal Panda of Malviya Nagar, within hours. Police seized the pistol and the scooter used in the killing.

Police said old enmity led to the murder of Saksham Panda, a resident of Mutthiganj. Panda had eight criminal case pending against him.

Police said Panda and his rival camp were loggerheads over possession of a wooden makeshift pan shop at Ganga ghat, Daraganj. It was alleged that Saksham and his accomplices had allegedly set the makeshift shop on fire on Wednesday.

As per family members, Panda received a call and left house at 7:30 am on Thursday. Two assailants on a scooter fired at him. He was taken to govt hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
