Heavy traffic jams in posh Allahabad areas after school hours

As the schools are over, major streets of the city including Lukerganj overbridge, Thornhill Road, Kamala Nehru Road, Johnstonganj Crossing, Alopibagh Crossing, Sulemsarai, Naini Old Bridge Road on Monday witnessed heavy traffic jams with scores of commuters including schoolchildren remained trapped for more than an hour.

ALLAHABAD: As the schools are over, major streets of the city including Lukerganj overbridge, Thornhill Road, Kamala Nehru Road, Johnstonganj Crossing, Alopibagh Crossing, Sulemsarai, Naini Old Bridge Road on Monday witnessed heavy traffic jams with scores of commuters including schoolchildren remained trapped for more than an hour.
Ironically, deployment of inadequate traffic police personnel has unquestionably compounded the woes of commuters.

Commuters said that there should be more deployment of traffic policemen and homeguards to ease traffic jams especially when the schools were over. Commuters on Thornhill road, Civil Lines, Naini and old city streets were the worst suffers who faced tough time throughout the day.
Civil Lines resident, Anand Dubey said "more policemen would be deployed outside schools and colleges to regulate traffic especially when schools are over."
Similar views were echoed by Naini resident, Vijay Tiwari. Traffic police officials said that due to road repair and widening works, the commuting was quite restricted and commuters were facing hardship. Secondly, poor conditions of roads were also responsible for slow traffic on busy streets.
Traffic inspector Indrapal Singh meanwhile, pointed that duties of additional traffic police constables and homeguards have been assigned at all important crossings and intersections and cops have been asked to regulate traffic at busy areas.
More or less, commuters and traffic policemen are at loggerheads over the issue of frequent jams and they even exchanging verbal dual at public places.
