HC modifies Pradeep Shukla's bail term

Allahabad: The Allahabad high court on Monday modified the order of Ghaziabad CBI court and directed that former principal secretary Pradeep Shukla, who is an accused in NHRM scam, would deposit Rs 5 lakh instead of Rs 50 lakh before the CBI court as per a condition for grant of bail.

The multi-crore NRHM scam was investigated by CBI and its trial is going on in CBI court of Ghaziabad. The CBI court had granted bail to Shukla in one of the criminal cases relating to NHRM scam on the condition that he would deposit Rs 50 lakh before it till May 24. Shukla, who was principal secretary (health) UP in the previous government, challenged it before the HC. tnn

While directing the CBI to file a counter-affidavit within two weeks, Justice Arun Tandon fixed May 25 as next date of hearing.

Counsel for Shukla had argued before the high court that the amount of Rs 50 lakhs was too high.
