Former mayor Ravi Bhushan Wadhawan (65) was killed in a road accident at Yamuna Expressway near Greater Noida on Friday, while his driver Puran Singh suffered serious injuries. The driver had informed the police and the family about the accident.
Following the information, the police rushed to the site and admitted Singh to a nearby hospital, while the body was sent for postmortem.
According to police, the accident occurred when a speeding auto-rickshaw from opposite direction suddenly came in front of the car in which Wadhaan was traveling. In an attempt to save the auto rickshaw, the driver applied emergency break after which the car skidded and fell into a deep trench after breaking the railing.
Wadhawan reportedly died on the spot. The police had a difficult time extricating the body from the car. He was coming to the city to attend marriage ceremony of his close friend Mukesh Jaiswal.
Close to Bachchans, Ravi Bhushan Wadhawan was elected mayor of Allahabad Municipal Corporation in 1991. He, however, had to leave the post in the year 1993, after 2 years 28 days.
His close associate Arun Pathak said he also served as a chairman of Chalchitra Nigam for two years in 1985 under the government of Narayan Dutt Tiwari. Later, he also served as the chairman of ‘Sanskritik Sodh evam Prasikshan Sansthan’ in 2005.

Congress workers mourned Wadhawan’s death. In separate condolence messages, they said that the region lost an active leader.
