City markets abuzz with Karwa Chauth shopping

Prayagraj: Karwa Chauth, a festival where married women observe fast to ensure the well-being, prosperity, and longevity of their husbands, will be celebrated in the city on Sunday. Markets and selected crossings of the city witnessed hectic activity and great enthusiasm among women and shopkeepers.Like any other city in North India, the markets of the Sangam city buzzed with hectic activities as married women were seen making purchases at shops selling henna, beauty products, and fashionable clothes. Equally popular were the eateries of the city. The same was the condition at several shops selling gift items. Shopping spree was seen in Chowk, Katra, and Civil Lines. The youths, who have set up their stalls on the service lane of Civil Lines to apply Mehendi, were busy all day.Bangle shop owners, beauty parlours, event managers, and different restaurant owners also made brisk business. Married women gathered at Ram Mandir, located at Civil Lines, and performed puja.Different jewellery shops in the city also witnessed enthusiastic husbands making last-minute purchases of jewellery items.
