Prayagraj: Mahatma Gandhi used to talk about progress and he wanted Indians to progress not only naturally but also morally, said senior journalist and editor of National Book Trust, New Delhi, Pankaj Chaturvedi.
He was speaking at an event organised by the Institute of Gandhi Thought and Peace Studies, of Allahabad University, on Monday. Marking the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the topic ‘Gandhi and Environment’ the event was addressed by several eminent persons.
Further speaking at the event, Chaturvedi said that Gandhi believed that nature is not inherited but it is automatically present for every generation. It is the unequal distribution of nature that hinders progress. He said that Mahatma Gandhi wanted Indians to become self-reliant and produce the things they needed on their own. Presiding over the program, former Vice Chancellor of Allahabad University Prof PK Shahu said that today there is a great need to adopt Gandhi’s principles of truth and non-violence.
