PRAYAGRAJ:A traffic e-challan issued against an auto driver on the charges of traffic violation has helped Mumbai police to track down the location of a stolen auto in Prayargaj and subsequent ensured the seizure of stolen auto with the help of their Prayagraj counterparts.

A joint team of traffic and Kydganj police on Sunday seized the stolen auto near Bangar dharamshala road near New Yamuna bridge when an auto driver was hiring passengers.

Police here said a Amboli (Mumbai) based resident, Ashok, who had been in auto plying and hiring business, had registered an FIR with Amboli police station against a man accusing him to steal his auto about two years back. Police said that a man, who used to ply a rented auto in Mumbai, had escaped to Prayagraj during corona pandemic and did not return. Ironically, the man ha dnot only submitted his fake name and address to his employer but had also broken the SIM which he was using in Mumbai after arrival in Sangam city.

Last week, the genuine auto owner received an e-challan of the auto and it took no time for him to contact Amboli police station. The Mumbai police then contacted their Prayagraj counterparts and a team of traffic police was assigned to track the location of the stolen auto. On Sunday, the stolen auto having Mumbai registration number was caught near Bangar Inncrossing. Cops have also detained the man who was hiring passengers.

Baihrana policeoutpost in -charge, Raju Krishna Singhtold TOI, “ We have been probing the case thoroughly and action would be initiated accordingly”.
