Devotees leave tragedy behind, flock Sangam again
SANGAM (ALLAHABAD): Though the horrific memories of stampede at Allahabad Junction still linger in the Mela area, the tragedy has not deterred pilgrims from flocking the Sangam for holy dip.
An estimated over 12 lakh pilgrims had taken the dip at Sangam after Mauni Amavasya Snan and the numbers are still swelling.
The driving force that draws them to Sangam, say devotees, is faith.

Under the security cover, crowds keep walking towards the Sangam noz to take holy dips.
They emerge ''All powerful'', said Ian Hilly, a student from Britain, who has specially made this trip to India to take part in the mega event. Moving between Allahabad and Varanasi, Ian is one of many foreigners marking their presence. ''Despite the tragedy, I experienced major crowds in mela,'' he said, calling the Maha Kumbh phenomenal. And yet, there was something remarkable here. There was a measured step. There is still no feeling of being 'crowded in'.
People are ready to help each other on ghats. From all corners of the country, the devout were here in all shapes and sizes, across all ages - men, women and children.
Measured as the mother of all festivals of the country, Maha Kumbh is held at regular intervals in turn at Nasik, Allahabad, Ujjain and Haridwar.
Devotees coming to the city are saddened over the stampede and express solitary with the kin of the deceased.
About 1.93 crore pilgrims are expected to take the holy dip on the occasion on Basant Panchmi (February 15), which will mark the third Shahi Snan.

Gujarat resident Paresh Patel said, "Ganga river is a delight. Beyond faith and belief, the Maha Kumbh is bringing to its seekers spiritual reality." ''Never seen anything like this,'' said Amit Sharma, a devotee from Delhi.
The Mela administration is trying to better coordination with local administration and police. Nine spots have also been finalised where the mob would be regulated.
IG Allahabad zone Alok Sharma said elaborate security arrangements are in place for the Basant Panchmi snan.
