ALLAHABAD: Bengali New Year, 1416 Bangabda, will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 15, at "Muktangan" of Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Civil Lines under the aegis of Bengali Social and Cultural Association (BSCA).
On the occasion, stipends will be given to meritorious students, books will be donated to different libraries while `Maan Patra' will be given to eminent citizens from different fields.
Those who would be felicitated include Swami Vishwamitrananda Maharaj of Bharat Sewa Ashram (social service), Pinaki Majumdar (education), Nirupam Chakraborty (sports) and Krishna Guha (music), informed secretary, BSCA, Shankar Chatterjee.
Two special awards will be given to Indrajeet Bose, recipient of National Nehru Balshree Award in the field of music and Indraneel Ghosh in the field of sports. Prof Ramendu Roy, dean, faculty of commerce Allahabad University will be the chief guest and K K Ghosh, president, BSCA will preside over the function.
On the occasion, a cultural programme will be presented by a leading band of Kolkata -- Mokam. The group would give its first performance in the city.
