ALLAHABAD: An urgent meeting of corporators was held in the executive council room of Allahabad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday. The corporators criticised state government decision for once again making the divisional commissioner/district magistrate as the sanction authority for the utilising the fund of Infrastructural development Fund and the Finance Commission instead of the mayor.
Senior corporator Shiv Sewak Singh observed that the decision to withdraw the mayors power to utilise money of the infrastructural fund and the finance commission for development works is condemnable as the mayor is directly elected by the people. Further, empowering the divisional commissioner/district magistrate as the sanctioning authority for undertaking the developmental works within the municipal limits is a measure for weakening democracy. This also indicates that state government is only interested in promoting bureaucracy and degrading the ethos of democracy.
All the corporators irrespective of their political parties affiliations parties has appealed to the state government to withdraw the decision as this only strengthens bureaucracy.
The corporators who participated in the meeting included Kamlesh Singh, Mohd Muslim, Upendra Singh, Uttam Kumar, Anand Ghildiyal, Shiva Tripathi, Kusum Lata Gupta, Akhilesh Singh, Anita Yadav, Ram Kumar, Ramesh Yadav, Mohd Azad and others.
