PRAYAGRAJ: A 50-year-old constable died after the roof of an old barrack’s veranda collapsed at reserve police lines under Kotwali police circle of Banda district late on Monday night.
The deceased constable was identified as Sone Lal yadav, a resident of Kanpur Dehat. He was recruited into the police force in 1995.

Bhanu Bhaskar, who rushed to the spot after the incident, told TOI “The incident took place around 2am, when the constable was sleeping outside the barrack.
He got trapped under the debris when the veranda’s roof collapsed.
“Senior cops carried out a rescue operation with the help of four JCBs. The injured constable was rushed to the district hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors,” the ADG said.
Taking serious note of the incident, the senior cop directed his subordinates to ensure inspection of all the buildings, including police stations, barracks and other units of Prayagraj zone by PWD for safety and maintenance. The ADG, however, said “Inclement weather and unprecedented rains might have caused incident”.
“All SPs of seven districts, including Banda, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Mahoba and Fatehpur have been instructed to complete safety inspections of all buildings in police stations, police lines, and offices within one week and submit their report. The report for evacuation and repair should also follow within the next fortnight,” he added.
