: The ashes of former union minister and senior Congress leader VidyaCharanShukla
were immersed in Sangam
on Saturday in the presence of family members, friends and senior Congress leaders and workers. The urn containing Shukla's ashes was brought to the city on Saturday morning via plane by his son and nephew at Bamrauli airport where it was received by senior Congress leaders including city Congress president Shyam Krishna Pandey and others.
From here, the ashes were taken in a vehicle to Quila Ghat, Yamuna from where they were subsequently taken in a motorboat to Sangam for immersion. Senior party leaders including the state Congress president, Dr Nirmal Khatri, former PCC chief Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi, zonal incharge Digvijay Singh, Zaigham Khan, Nishant Tripathi, Abhishek Shukla, Manas Sharma were present at Sangam to pay their last respects to the departed leader.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state general secretary Ashok Bajpai, who is Shukla's nephew, also attended the ashes immersion ceremony at Sangam.
Shukla died at a hospital in Delhi where he was undergoing treatment after being critically injured in the Naxal attack on Congress Parivartan yatra at Sukma district in Chattisgarh.
