Colourful programmes mark Navy Day

The cadets of 1 UP Naval Unit of the National Cadet Core, officers of the Indian Navy and Indian Army along with district officials participated in the programmes on the occasion of the Navy Day on Saturday.

ALLAHABAD: The cadets of 1 UP Naval Unit of the National Cadet Core, officers of the Indian Navy and Indian Army along with district officials participated in the programmes on the occasion of the Navy Day on Saturday. The Subhash crossing in Civil Lines was illuminated with lamps, followed by a colourful display of fireworks, to mark the occasion.
Commander Pradeep Mishra said though the day is also celebrated onboard Indian warships and at naval bases, Naval NCC, Allahabad is the only NCC Unit in the country which celebrates it on land.

A grand ceremony was organised under the supervision of Col NB Thapa, Group Commander, NCC group headquarters, Allahabad. An exhibition of ship models was put up to showcase the different aspects of naval life in order to motivate the youths to join the armed forces. Various models of warships along with the models of submarine, INS ARIHANT, and missile BRAHMOS were on the display.
Lt Cdr P K Ghosh of naval wing NCC, Allahabad University, said, "We need to inculcate patriotism in the people and nothing can better serve the purpose than the examples of supreme sacrifice of our soldiers."
AU vice-chancellor Prof NR Farooqui lauded the efforts of the cadets. An impressive guard of honour was given by the cadets to the distinguished guests who included Justice Ranvijay Singh, sub area Commander Brig R K Bhutani, Arty Brigade Commander Brig SJ Dhobale, IG police RP Singh among others.
