PRAYAGRAJ: A minor boy drowned at Ganga Ghat in Shahjadpur village under the Kokhraj police station of Kaushambi district on Wednesday morning while two have been rescued by the local divers. The deceased has been identified as Sumit Kumar Prajapati (10), a resident of Gulamipur.

The incident, as per Kokhraj police, took place when three friends — Suraj Prajapati (20), Anil Prajapati (18) and Sumit Kumar Prajapati(10), — all residents of Ganpa Gulamipur, had gone to take dip in the Ganga on the occasion of Guru Purnima at Ganga Ghat.

Police said all the three, including the minor boy, went into deep water and started drowning. Hearing their cries, swimmers sitting on boats jumped into the river and managed to take Suraj Prajapati and Anil Prajapati alive out of the river.

They, however, could not save the minor boy who went into deep water.

The body of the minor boy was later fished out by swimmers. TNN
