BJP, Cong workers clash over note ban

Times News Network

Allahabad: Workers of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clashed over demonetization issue near medical college crossing here on Wednesday, leaving one injured.

District Congress committee general secretary Haseeb Ahmad told TOI that a group of Youth Congress activists, as per their scheduled programme, had reached the crossing to burn an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and mark their protest over the ban on old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

However, when Congress workers reached the spot, they noticed a group of BJP workers already there, distributing roses among people and welcoming the PM’s move. Initially, there was a lot of slogan-shouting from both the sides. As Congress workers prepared to burn the effigy and BJP workers protested, the situation got out of hand.

Forces of three police stations rushed the spot but workers of both the parties managed to escape.

Police said Congress worker Zeeshan Ahmad was injured.
