ALLAHABAD: The birth anniversary of 24th Jain Tirthankara, Lord Mahavira was organised in the city on Tuesday with much fanfare as devotees gathered in large numbers to participate in the 3-day celebrations.
The programme commenced with a `prabhat pheri' taken out in the morning where school children from Jain `pathshala' and eminent members of the Jain community took part amidst chanting of Lord Mahavira's precepts of knowledge.
Later on the procession culminated at the Jain Temple after passing through different parts of the city. On the occasion, president, Jain Samaj, Surendra Kumar Goel and Prem Chandra Jain unfurled the flag.
The main attraction was the `shobha yatra' which was taken out from Jain Temple in Zero Road led by a colourful band, followed by school children and office bearers of Jain Samaj and members of the community.
The programme culminated with a public gathering at Jain Vidyalaya where Pandit Uday Chandra Jain threw light on the life and teachings of Lord Mahavira.
