‘Shringar chowkis’ have become an integral part of Dussehra here. Young boys and girls decorated as Ram, Laxman, Bharat, Shatrughan and Sita are seated on moving tableaux which are taken to the different parts of the city. These shringar chowkis are tastefully decorated and embellished with intricate designs.
These ‘shringar chowki’ are being taken by Pajawa Ramleela Committee and Patharchatti Ramleela Committee who have the honour of being the oldest Ramleela Commitee of the city and they always showcase the splendour of Ramayana before the public.
A ‘shringar chowki’ is usually taken out in the morning. It is based on a distinct pattern of decoration on each day of Navratra. Such is the craze among the people that they get up in the morning and line the route to have a glimpse of the decorated chowkis.
On Saturday morning, Pajawa Ramleela Committee took out a shringar chowki based. Various colorful beads were utilized in the decoration of the tableaux. On this chowki, many mythological characters were also depicted.
On the third day, the committee will decorate ‘shringar chowki’ with colorful butterflies which will be a visual treat for eyes. On the fourth day, ‘shringar chowki’ will be decorated with white beads.. The theme of fifth day will be of banana leaves.
On sixth day, there will be a novel attraction as a chariot of silver will be rolled out on the streets and the mythological characters will be seated on the chariot.
On the eighth day, the chowki will be decorated with silver and lined with
gold which will also be a special feature.
The shringar chowki starts it journey from Bachaji Dharamshala in Rani Mandi and passes through Kotwali, Chowk, Clock Tower, Johsntonganj area and finally completes its journey at Shahganj Mandir.
Convenor of Pajawa Ramleela Committee Rajesh Mehrotra said that ‘shringar Chowkis’ have become a rich tradition of the city.
