Assets of man linked to unfair means in exams attached
Prayagraj: Prayagraj police have attached property worth nearly Rs 60 lakh belonging to alleged copying gang leader Sonu Singh Yadav and his wife, Sharda Yadav, under the Gangsters Act.
According to police, Sonu Singh Yadav, resident of Katra Kaudihar in Nawabganj area, is accused of running a gang involved in facilitating copying in exams and other illegal activities. Officials said the couple allegedly purchased land in village Rajapur Malhua of Soraon tehsil using money earned through criminal activities.
The property attached includes land bearing Arazi numbers 366 and 367 with a total area of 0.2780 hectare. Out of this, police have attached around 347.5 square metres of land. Govt value of the property is estimated at about Rs 27.80 lakh, while its market value is said to be nearly Rs 60 lakh.
Police said the action was taken under Section 14(1) of UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act after approval from police commissioner’s court.
The case is linked to a Gangsters Act FIR registered at Nawabganj police station in 2025. During investigation, police received information that properties were allegedly purchased in the names of family members using money earned through organised copying activities.
The action was carried out under the direction of senior officers of the Prayagraj Police Commissionerate. Police officials said investigations are continuing, and more movable and immovable properties linked to the accused may also face attachment proceedings in the days to come.
