PRAYAGRAJ: Humanity though has become a rare phenomenon these days, the acts of 108 ambulance driver Umesh Sharma and emergency medical technician (EMT) Anandi Prasad reinforce faith in it. In a rare display of compassion, Sharma and Prasad, the ambulance staff returned Rs 40,000 cash they found lying unattended inside the ambulance to the Handia police while cleaning the vehicle after dropping the injured persons of a road mishap at SRN hospital on Sunday evening.

Handia police said that duo ambulance staff has set an example of honesty as they handed over the cash to police anticipating that cash might have dropped from the trousers’ pocket of an accident victim.

The videography of entire act was also captured. Police said two persons lost their lives and two others sustained injuries in a road mishap when a SUV carrying four persons rammed into a stationed truck near Basupur village under the limits of Handia police station in trans Ganga pocket on Prayagraj – Varanasi highway on Sunday evening.

Following the road mishap, an 108 ambulance arrived and brought two of the injured persons to SRN hospital for treatment. After dropping the accident victims at the hospital, the ambulance driver and EMT Anandi Prasad were busy in cleaning the stretcher having blood spot of victims and vehicle, spotted cash having a bundle of 80 denominations of Rs 500 currency notes lying under the ambulance back seat unattended.

They kept it them and decided to return to police station officials concerned without delay. Interestingly, the ambulance staff did not wait too long and reached Handia police station on Sunday night and handed over the recovered cash to police officials in writing.

Upon discovering cash, we immediately planned to return it to the police officials so that the money could reach genuine owner. Meanwhile, his act of compassion and honesty has been receiving appreciation from all quarters.
