8-yr-old drowns in river, another critical

Prayagraj: An eight-year-old child died by drowning while another is in critical condition after the two went to bathe in the Tons River under the Meja police station on Friday.

According to police, the children were playing near the riverbank when they lost balance, and slipped into deep water.

Hearing the commotion, local residents and fishermen rushed to the scene and immediately jumped into the river to rescue the children. Both were pulled out and taken to the Community Health Centre in Ramnagar.

While one was declared dead on arrival, another child, who was in critical condition was given emergency treatment and later referred to a private hospital, where he is currently admitted.

Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh visited the bereaved family to offer condolences. Several local leaders, including those of the Samajwadi Party, were also present.
