60km long human chain to create awareness on voting in Kaushambi

ALLAHABAD: In a first, thousands of people including school children, government employees, sanitary workers, NCC and NSS cadets and villagers from seven nagar panchayats in neighbouring Kaushambi on Wednesday participated in a 60km long human chain to create awareness about the importance of voting.
The initiative was organised by Kaushambi district administration to increase voting percentage.
The polling for Kaushambi parliamentary seat would be held on May 6.
In 2014 parliamentary election, around 52.38 per cent of 16.52 lakh voters exercised their franchise. However, this time around 17.65 lakh voters would cast their vote in Kaushambi parliamentary seat on May 6.
District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma and Superintendent of Police, Kaushambi, Pradeep Gupta also participated in the event.
The human chain was formed from nagar panchayat Manjhanpur at Osa crossing and connected all seven nagar panchayats.
On the occasion, DM spoke about the importance of voting. For first-time voters, DM explained on how an electronic voting machine should be used. Verma also encouraged first time voters and others for voting to build the future of the nation.
Later, talking to TOI, Verma said creating awareness about voting among the youngsters and especially first-time voters was the prime focus. He further said that the district administration is conducting a series of events across all the educational institutes in the district.
