6-day Kathak, art workshop begins

Prayagraj: Six-day Kathak and art workshop, inspired by vision of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj began on Sept 22 and will culminate on Sept 26 at Jagat Taran Inter College. Anita Kulkarni—acclaimed painter and daughter of Pandit Birju Maharaj—is leading the art training sessions. "Kathak is more than a dance form. It's a part of our heritage. Today's children need an opportunity to connect with this tradition," said Kulkarni. Open to participants aged seven and above, the programme promises expert guidance. Kathak lessons will be taught by Shinjini Kulkarni, granddaughter and disciple of Birju Maharaj, while renowned international artist Sanjeev Gogoi will teach painting skills. Organisers have also included discussions on building artistic careers, ensuring students discover both talent and opportunity.A cultural event will be performed on Sept 27 at NCZCC auditorium, where young Kathak learners will perform on stage and artists will compete in a painting contest.
