Prayagraj: Teenagers between 12-14 year age group got their first jabs against amid a rush of enthusiasm, excitement and relief.
A class VIIIth student, Utkarsh was very much excited after taking Covid vaccine on the campus of MLN Medical college. He said, “I have been reading all about vaccination campaign through various medium and keeping myself informed’.
Not only Utkarsh, many others who got first dose of vaccine were excited to share their experience with their family and friends.
Aragam, after getting his first dose, said, “I have sent messages to my friends of my age to get jabbed at the earliest as this is the only way we can get the confidence to go out, get back to school and start our lives all over again.
On Monday, as many as 55 children in the age group of 12-14 years got the first dose at the MLN Medical college. The district health authorities have set a target to cover around 2.52 lakh children in the age group of 12 -14 years in the Prayagraj district. Nodal Officer (Vaccination) at MLN Medical college, Dr. Utsav Singh told TOI that, “This was like a vaccination festival for students. Teenagers who were born between 2008 and 2010, are arriving at the vaccination centre to get first dose and expressing their happiness and excitement”. Dr Singh further said, “While interacting with medical staff, majority of the teenagers were happy to be finally getting inoculated and keen to share their experience with parents and friends”.
Officials of the district administration and health department are making sincere efforts to make the vax drive successful and to cover all 2.52 lakh children in the age group of 12 -14 years in the district. There are also plans to take up vaccination at schools too.
With the reopening of schools and subsequent vaccination drive for children underway at various centres for the different age groups of children, parents and guardians are too relived a lot.
Ajay Tripathi, father of a class VIIIth student said, “With vaccination drive, there has been a clarity among parents and students that by the time (exams are held), students would be either getting first dose or fully vaccinated.” Parents feel that vaccination among children in age group of 12 and 14 years is a big psychological relief for them.
