Police bust fraud call centre duping American citizens

Ajmer: Police, along with the cyber cell, raided the premises of a marriage palace on Foisagar Road on Saturday and busted a fraudulent cyber call centre that was calling American citizens to dupe them online. Police also arrested 18 people who were working in the call centre, including four women. Shivam Kumar, who was arrested, emerged as the mastermind of this fraud call centre. The accused belong to Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, and Punjab. Police also seized 29 laptops, 40 mobiles, and SIMs.Sources said that police got a tip-off that a fake call centre was operating at Sanjay Marriage Garden situated on Foisagar Road. It was revealed that this call centre was calling American citizens and duping them with cyber fraud. SP Ajmer Devendra Kumar Bishnoi formed a team to verify the information, and on Saturday, when police verified the allegations, a team of Christian Ganj police and a cyber cell raided the premises.Police said the international call centre had started a few days ago, and the mastermind, Shivam Kumar, a resident of Delhi, took a hotel and the marriage palace on rent to establish the call centre. People from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Bihar were selected to work at this call centre, and rooms were provided to them in a nearby rented hotel where they were staying. Police said that in the preliminary investigation, it was found that this fraud call centre had duped hundreds of American citizens of crores of rupees. “They would offer American citizens a loan with very low interest and lure them with life insurance policies, obtaining their personal details and then duping them,” said Bishnoi.Sources said police are now investigating how they obtained the mobile details of American citizens, who else is linked with this cyber fraud network, and who the other masterminds are.

Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre saves Rs 2400 crore from cyber fraudsters

The cyber fraud reporting system established under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre in 2021 has saved over Rs 2400 crore by addressing 7.6 lakh complaints. The Sanchar Saarthi portal has supported disconnection of 73 lakh mobile connections taken on forged documents, the blocking of 2.3 lakh mobile handsets, and recovery of 11 lakh lost or stolen mobile sets.

14 Indian youth rescued from cyber scam centres in Laos

The Indian embassy in Laos rescued 14 Indian youths from cyber-scam centres in the Golden Triangle SEZ. Officials collaborated with Laotian authorities to ensure their safe return. To date, 548 Indian youths have been rescued. Indian nationals are advised against accepting job offers in Laos that could involve them in cyber scams. Minister Jaishankar commended Laos' cooperation.

Retired banker duped of 39 lakh in online fraud

A retired bank officer in Indore was duped of Rs 39.60 lakh by fraudsters who threatened to implicate him in a child trafficking case. They monitored him via a camera on an app and made him transfer funds into various accounts. After realizing the deception, he filed a complaint at Lasudia police station.
