In show of unity, Pilot-Gehlot ‘loyalists’ share dais in Ajmer rally

Ajmer: For probably the first time in the past five years, Sachin Pilot ‘loyalists’ in the state Congress were seen on stage with Ashok Gehlot when the former chief minister addressed a gathering in Ajmer in support of party candidate Ramchandra Choudhary on Tuesday. Former minister Raghu Sharma and former MLA from Masuda, Rakesh Pareek, along with the Congress candidate in the last Assembly election, Shiv Parkash Gujjar, and MLA from Kishangarh Vikas Choudhary—all ostensibly from the Pilot camp—shared the stage with Gehlot.“Even Mahindra Singh Ralawata, who lost the Ajmer North Assembly election and sponsored Sachin Pilot’s ‘pad yatra’ from Ajmer to Jaipur was on the stage,” said a local Congress worker. This was the first time since the Lok Sabha elections were declared that a state-level leader came to Ajmer for campaigning in support of the Congress candidate. PM Narendra Modi has campaigned for BJP along with chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, deputy CMs Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa for party candidate Bhagirath Choudhary from Ajmer. Sources said that it was expected that the Pilot group would keep a distance from the public meeting that Gehlot would address, especially as party candidate Ramchandra Choudhary had left Congress in 2014 over a dispute with Sachin Pilot and had joined BJP at the time.Surprisingly, Pilot loyalists were seen sitting alongside Gehlot at the dais. Sources said that one of the reasons why they came was the good relations that Choudhary, who is chairman of the Ajmer dairy for the past 30 years, enjoyed with every local Congress leader.
