Drive against parking space misuse in Ajmer

AJMER: Ajmer Municipal Corporation (AMC) started a campaign on Saturday against misuse of parking lots in buildings and hotels. In many cases it has been seen that the parking space is used for other purposes, while vehicles are parked on roadside, leading to traffic snarls. Till Sunday evening more than 15 building and hotel owners were served notices on this issue.
Municipal commissioner Chinmayee Gopal has constituted a committee under deputy commissioner Ashok Meena to remove encroachments from parking space of buildings.She has also asked residents to help in the campaign and use space allotted for parking their vehicles.
A team consisting of assistant engineer Ramesh Choudhary, chief fire officer Habib Khan and others found that complexes with basements meant for parking are flouting rules. An official told TOI that in Patel Stadium area, the hotels were using basement parking for commercial purposes.
Officials said as of now notices have been given to flouters. Hotel and building owners have been directed to not allow parking outside their complexes on the roads. “In the second phase of the campaign, if owners still do not remove encroachments from their parking area then AMC will seal the place,” said an official.
