Defrauded bizman sets himself on fire outside DSP office in Kekri town

Ajmer: A 36-year-old businessman, who faced financial loss of Rs 50 lakh in a mining partnership deal, set himself on fire Thursday afternoon outside the deputy superintendent of police’s office in Kekri town in Ajmer district. He was taken to a local hospital and later referred to JLN Hospital in Ajmer. His condition is said to be critical.
Before committing the act, the businessman, Ashok Gautam, recorded a video in which he alleged that the police had failed to take action on his complaint for the past one-and-a-half years. Kiran Sharma, Gautam’s mother, said that he had made a deal for a mining project in Kekri but the partners defrauded him of Rs 50 lakh. “Police had intervened to make a compromise and the partners had promised to return the money. But they did not do so,” she said. Gautam had filed an FIR against Paras Gurjar and Anil Dadich on July 25, 2022, at Kekri city police station.
The accused then agreed to pay 50% of the money to settle the case, but did not keep their promise. She said the police filed a final report in the case and did not do anything further. A police officer said the victim’s statement would be recorded once he recovers and an investigation conducted. “Anyone found guilty will be punished,” the officer said. TNN
