BJP MLA alleges misuse of govt machinery ahead of elections

Ajmer: BJP’s MLA from Ajmer North, Vasudev Devnani, on Thursday accused the Ashok Gehlot government of misusing the state machinery for electoral gains. In a complaint lodged with the district election officer and the state election commissioner, he alleged that 48 BLOs (booth-level officers) were transferred away from his constituency and replaced by others for political reasons.Devnani said the Congress government, with the intention of influencing the results of the upcoming assembly elections, transferred 48 out of 194 BLOs in Ajmer North constituency to other places and deputed new BLOs “with a conspiracy”. “The additional district magistrate issued this order and removed 48 BLOs who were working on the electoral lists of voters in my constituency. They were removed without any reason when they were summing up the voters’ list,” said Devnani. He alleged that changing the BLOs at the last moment was effected “on the directions of Congress leaders because old BLOs know the region and voters and their transfers will result in many new voters not being able to get their names into the lists”. Devnani has been winning this seat in the last four elections while Congress has been unable to win here in the last 20 years.
