Bisalpur Dam gets 41cm rainwater in a day
Ajmer/Jaipur: The wait of people of Jaipur, Tonk and Ajmer was over on Friday morning when water started coming into the Bisalpur Dam, responsible for supplying drinking water to the three districts. For the first time in this season so far Bisalpur dam saw elevation in its water level.
Within 24 hours, the dam welcomed 41 centimetre of water on Friday, following heavy rainfall in its catchment area including Kekri, Deoli, Todaraisingh and some other parts of Tonk.

On Thursday evening, the water level at Bisalpur Dam was recorded at 309.66 metre, which increased to 310.08 metre by Friday evening. “This is a good start and we hope it continues in the coming days. Local rainfall has also been good in and around Bisalpur Dam,” said Manish Bansal, executive engineer of Bisalpur Dam said.
Rise in the water level has made the PHED confident that it will be sufficient to supply water for three months to Jaipur, Ajmer, and Tonk.
Heavy rains since morning at various places including Keeri, Deoli, Uniara, Tonk and Todaraisingh led to heavy flow of the water into the dam. “There has been a continuous rise in the water level of the Bisalpur dam since morning. At 6am, the water level was 309.69 and at 5pm it was 310.07,” Bansal added.
However, no water gauge was found at Triveni, which is the confluence of three seasonal rivers: Banas, Bechad, and Meenal. "As there were no rains in Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, and surrounding regions, Triveni did not receive any water on Friday," stated an official from the PHED department.

The height of Bisalpur Dam is 315.5 metre, and it has 18 gates. When the dam overflows, water is released into the river for irrigation, benefiting the Tonk and Swai Madhopur districts.
Bisalpur Dam is a crucial source of drinking water for Jaipur, which receives an average supply of 610 million liters per day (MLD), while Ajmer receives 400 MLD and Tonk gets 210 MLD of water.
“This time, due to the extensive heat, most of the water in the catchment region evaporated," said an official.
