Ana Sagar Lake channel gates opened to release rainwater
Ajmer: After two consecutive days of heavy rainfall, Ajmer experienced a temporary respite on Tuesday. The district administration took measures to alleviate the excess water situation by opening all the channel gates of Ana Sagar Lake by 6 inches. Although there were reports of two old buildings collapsing at Chandbawari and Diggi Chowk after the rains subsided on Monday night, fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, the aftermath of the rainfall has led to potholes on several roads and complaints of waterlogging in areas such as Vaishali Nagar and Kotara.District collector Bharati Dixit personally supervised the situation on Tuesday morning. She visited Ana Sagar Lake and ordered the opening of all the gates by 6 inches to facilitate the outflow of water. She then inspected Aam Ka Talab, where the water from Ana Sagar Lake had accumulated. Since there are residential areas surrounding Aam Ka Talab, the excess water flowed into Khanpura Lake. Dixit assured the public that the administration was actively managing the water accumulated due to the heavy rains. Mahesh Rathi, a senior engineer from the irrigation department, confirmed that the gates were opened early in the morning by 6 inches until noon to address the issue of excessive water in Ana Sagar Lake.According to the police control room, two old houses collapsed, one in Chandwardai and another at Diggi Chowk. Fortunately, since the houses were old and vacant, no casualties were reported. In Pushkar, the main road developed potholes, and a tractor got stuck, requiring police assistance for rescue. As the water level receded in most areas, including Gujjar Dharti, Palbichla, Bhajanganj, Nagara, and Dholabhata, the accumulated sewage on the roads became a concern, with residents demanding immediate cleaning. The cyclonic rains also caused significant damage to the electricity infrastructure in the Ajmer Discom region. Forty-eight electricity poles were toppled, along with two power transformers and 591 distribution transformers. The power supply was disrupted in 1,171 villages, but it was restored by Tuesday. The Discom received a total of 11,881 complaints during the two days of cyclonic rains.
