Ajmer man arrested for rape of US woman

AJMER: An Ajmer resident, who was earlier booked for raping and cheating a US woman on the pretext of marriage, was arrested after he was discharged from a hospital on Wednesday. The accused was admitted to JLN Hospital a few days ago after he got injured while cleaning a friend's rifle at the latter's farmhouse in Ajmer's Nasirabad town.

Police said a case was registered against Manav Singh Rathore, who claimed to be a lawyer, after the 45-year-old US woman lodged a complaint with Bundi district police, alleging rape and deceit. Police said the accused befriended the complainant on Facebook, and invited her to India, promising to marry her. The Florida-based woman left her job and came to India.

The accused established physical relations with the woman and stayed in hotels in Jaipur and Ajmer with her. He even staged a wedding with her on July 15 at a temple at Nasirabad, and introduced his first wife to the complainant as his cousin.

The US woman approached police in Bundi district through an NGO on July 25, after she discovered that Rathore was already married and had a child, and that she had been cheated. A zero FIR was registered in Bundi and the case was transferred to Ajmer police.

DSP Nemi Chand, who is the investigating officer, said the accused used the Aadhaar card of his friend for his hotel stays in Jaipur and Ajmer.
