Ajmer: A 42-year-old man was arrested on Friday for killing an elderly friend of his to avoid having to pay back the money the latter had lent him. An accomplice of the accused was also arrested.
The incident took place at Jawaja in Ajmer district, nearly 100 km off the city and on the border with Rajsamand district. Police said Dilip Singh was arrested for allegedly killing his friend Daulat Singh, 65, by hitting his head with a hammer.
Karni Singh, 32, a resident of Beawar city and one of Dilip’s friends, was also arrested for helping in the murder.
SHO Manvendra Singh of Jawaja police station said that a body found lying near the cremation ground on March 31 was later identified as that of Daulat Singh, a resident of Jawaja. Police registered a case of murder and started an investigation. It was found that Daulat Singh was last seen with his close friend Dilip Singh on March 30. Police found that Dilip Singh had also attended the third-day condolence gathering organised at Daulat Singh’s residence.
“During interrogation, Dilip Singh revealed Daulat Singh had given him a loan and that even Dilip used to keep Daulat’s ATM card, with which he used to withdraw money from Daulat’s bank account. Dilip confessed to killing Daulat when the latter started asking for his money back,” said the SHO.
Dilip Singh also confessed that he committed the murder with the help of his friend Karni Singh. The duo hit his head with a hammer and dumped his body at an isolated place, said the SHO.
