The protest occurred days after a trial court convicted last of the accused in the infamous Ajmer blackmail and rape scandal of 1992.
The rally started from Sophia College, proceeded to Jaipur Road, crossed the district and session court, bus stand and reached the collectorate. The girls were carrying placards and shouting, "We want justice, we too have the right to live."
A memorandum addressed to the President was given to district collector Bharti Dixit. “This is not against any particular incident but for every incident which is against women or any girl; we want safety,” Sophia college principal, professor Sister Pearl said.
She added, “This is awareness for the safety of every daughter of this country. There is an increase in the number of violent crimes against women, which is extremely worrying. Women are victims of physical, emotional and mental harassment. This also challenges the values of society.
