3 held for duping Ajmer man with fake gold brick

Ajmer: Three men were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly duping a man in the city with a fake gold brick. Two imitation gold bricks and 600 mg of gold were seized from them, said officials of Christian Ganj police station.
Naseer Khan (58) and Israfil Shah (40), both residents of West Bengal, and Sheikh Raju (30), a resident of Ajmer, were arrested after a city resident complained to police of cheating by them, said SHO Ravish Samariya.The three men were identified through the footage of different CCTV cameras and arrested, he added.
On August 29, Hastimal, a resident of Haribhau Upadhyaya Nagar, had alleged that the three accused had approached him when he was sitting at a tea stall near the regional college August 24.
He said the trio inquired of a rented house and took his mobile number.
One of the accused called him and came to meet him same day and, claiming that he had got a house on rent but needed money, offered to sell him a gold brick that he said he had found while working as a labourer.
“The trio gave a gold sample to the victim for his satisfaction. When he went to a jeweller to check its quality, it was found that the gold was 82 per cent pure. The victim was then ready to purchase 250 gram of gold brick at a cost of Rs 5 lakh and gave them Rs 10,000 as advance. The next day, the accused met the victim at the same tea stall and showed him the gold brick, but when he asked to check the quality of the gold, the accused refused and left without returning his Rs 10,000. The victim then reported the matter to police,” said the SHO.
Police are conducting further investigation and also checking the criminal record of the three accused.
