AHMEDABAD: A 21-year-old man, a resident of Ramol area of the city, on Sunday evening committed suicide by jumping into
Sabarmati river from the walkway in Jamalpur, said police.
The deceased, identified as Jayesh Vaghela, a daily wager, was suffering from epilepsy for the past six months which could be cause behind committing suicide, say cops.
Vaghela is learnt to have updated his WhatsApp status with his picture and wrote, “Hoon javu chhu have (I am going far away now)” and then jumped into the river, said inspector M A Singh of Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police.
“Before jumping into the river, he had also called up his friends and said that he would die as he could not bear the pain of epilepsy fits,” added Singh.
Singh said that Vaghela reached at the walkway at around 2.30pm and was walking there for a while. Later, he was seen calling someone. He then put his cellphone on a wall of the walkway, said onlookers.
Suddenly he jumped into the river, seeing which some onlookers called up fire brigade and police. After around three hours, his body was recovered from under Sardar Bridge.
“We have taken the statement of his uncle who told us that Vaghela was fed up with fits of epilepsy which was the reason behind his suicide,” Singh said.
