AHMEDABAD: A youth was arrested by a team of Satellite police from near Iskcon mall for attempting to rob a car. Police are yet to know the reason why Piyush Chaudhary, 25, the accused, committed the crime. An air pistol was found on Chaudhary which he had used to threaten a group of women near the mall.
The incident occurred when Tina Patel, 39, a resident of Tarunnagar III on Gurukul Road, went to Iskcon Mall along with four friends and relatives at 2.30 pm in her car for shopping.

When she was at the parking area with her friends, Chaudhary accosted her, and pushing her out of the car, got inside the vehicle. When Patel and others resisted, Chaudhary brandished an air gun to give them a scare.
However, sensing trouble security guards and other visitors at the mall pounced on him and overpowered him. Patel and her friends reported the matter to the police who identified the accused as Chaudhary, a resident of Patan.
"Chaudhary is son of a farmer and youngest of three brothers. His body search fetched the air pistol that he brandished as a real gun and also a sack of chili powder," said a Satellite police official.
M S Sindha, inspector of Satellite police station, said that after the arrest, Chaudhary had started talking gibberish and was behaving like mentally unstable.
"We have sought details from his family members who told us that he was working with his father at farms and they don't know when he left for Ahmedabad and why. His questioning is on to know why he tried to rob the car and what he wanted to do after the robbery. He had purchased the air pistol a few days back," he said.
