Youth alleging torture has criminal record: Police

AHMEDABAD: In a twist to the tale of alleged police excesses against a Patidar youth, Sandeep Patel, cops have claimed that the youth has a criminal record, and had been ordered not to enter the city as six offences have been registered against him.

Addressing reporters, DCP, Zone 4, Parikshita Rathore, said that sub-inspector A S Asari had called Sandeep to record his statement with regard to an application he had submitted against one Anil Patel for not returning Rs1.5 lakh.

“However, as Naroda police had just served him an externment notice, Sandeep feared arrest and staged the whole incident, calling up 108 ambulance to

Krishnanagar

police station,” said Rathore. “He had been in the police station for barely eight minutes and the

CCTV

footage clearly shows that he was not beaten up,” Rathore added.

Sandeep had alleged that Anil Patel was not returning the money borrowed from him and he was thrashed by

PSI Asari

and head constable Ashok Bhatt when he went to inquire about the progress of his application. However, the cops have not yet registered an offence against Sandeep for submitting a false application or making false allegations.
