AHMEDABAD: A 23-year-old youth died on Tuesday, hours after being released by his abductors. The victim was left near his residence after being thrashed severely late in the night. After being unconscious for most of the time, he was declared dead at 10.30 am. Police officials have filed a complaint for abduction and murder in the case.
Danilimda police station officials said Sadiq Chauhan, 23, a resident of Islampura, Kapadvanj, was abducted by a group, including Mohammed Ghulam Shama, Mushtaq Ahmed Shaikh, Qadir Shaikh and
Ashiq Ali, all residents of Danilimda.
As per Chauhan`s father Sikandarbhai`s police complaint, the accused abducted Sadiq from his aunt`s residence in Danilimda at 3 pm on Sunday in a Toyota Qualis SUV.
"The gang then took him on a ride around the city and after threatening him, let him go in the evening. Sadiq, an autorickshaw driver, was again taken in their SUV by the group on the pretext of striking a truce on Monday and then kept at an under-construction house near Nawab ni Chali. There, he was beaten up severely and dropped near his house at 10.30 pm," said police. Sadiq died while being treated at a city hospital later. He was not conscious most of the time and could not narrate the entire story, said investigators.
Sachin Badshah, deputy commissioner of police, Zone VI, told TOI that prima facie it looks as a matter of personal dispute. "We are yet to piece together the events in the case. We are investigating the relationship between Sadiq and the abductors, the bone of contention and role of various persons," he said.
He added that Mushtaq alias Kaniyo is a notorious criminal from Shah Alam involved in a number of crimes, including murder, attempt to murder and extortion.
