Youngsters doing the job for Gujarat
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat cricket team has been riding high these days. First, they almost made it to the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals, then the Gujarat team won the G1 cricket tournament where teams from Saurashtra and Baroda took part. After warming up well, Parthiv Patel-led side made a statement by registering a convincing 127-run win over Maharashtra in their first match of the Ramakant Desai West Zone Ranji one-dayers.

And then came the icing on the cake with a four-wicket win over Mumbai in their second encounter which finished on Friday night.
One thing common in all these wins is the fact that team's younger lot is contributing massively. If 20-year-old Akshar Patel has proved with both bat and the ball, same aged pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been Parthiv's go-to bowler for over a year now. Chipping in with wickets is 25-year-old novice pacer Kamlesh Thakore who has played only two List A games for Gujarat. Another youngster doing a good job is Dhruv Raval who on his debut List A match hit 44 against Maharashtra and went on to hit his first 50 only in the second match against the mighty Mumbai side.
"Akshar is captain's delight. He gives his best in whatever he does be it bowling, batting or fielding," Parthiv told after Akshar's match winning knock of 53 runs in their first match of Ranji one-dayers.
If these youngsters continue to contribute in the same way, Gujarat should soon touch newer heights.
